Following a challenging yet encouraging match, Plymouth Hope FC’s Assistant Coach Douglas shared his insights on the team’s performance, recent struggles, and plans for improvement. In a candid post-match interview, Douglas reflected on the highs and lows of the season so far, emphasizing the importance of consistency and adaptability in a competitive league.
“We knew it was going to be difficult,” Douglas admitted. “Consistency has been an issue, and in this league, it’s something you can expect. But we’re always working hard to correct areas where we need to improve, whether it’s individual positions or team coordination.” He highlighted the team’s determination to address these gaps through rigorous training and a commitment to progress.
Douglas also spoke about his approach on the sidelines, where his vocal instructions aim to guide players during critical moments. “We’re outside the lines, so we see the game differently from the players. Sometimes shouting is necessary to give them a heads-up,” he explained. He credited the players for their growing understanding of tactical demands and their ability to adapt during matches.
The coach praised Alonso and Diddy, who started on the bench but made a significant impact during the game. Douglas acknowledged that Diddy’s initial exclusion was due to disciplinary reasons, emphasizing the importance of accountability within the team. “It’s not about punishment, but showing that someone else can step in and do the job. That’s the mindset we want,” he noted.
When asked about the absence of a natural goalkeeper in the squad, Douglas admitted it remains a challenge. “At the moment, we’re relying on outfield players to step in as goalkeepers. It’s not ideal, but we’re working with what we have.” He mentioned Diddy as a potential option to fill the gap temporarily, highlighting the team’s resourcefulness.
Looking ahead, Douglas stressed the importance of building a cohesive group rather than focusing solely on the next match. “Our goal is to create a team that can consistently deliver results,” he said. With tougher games on the horizon, Douglas assured fans that the coaching staff is implementing stricter measures and tailored training sessions to prepare the squad.
Despite the challenges, Douglas remains optimistic. His dedication to fostering a disciplined, adaptable, and resilient team continues to shine as Plymouth Hope FC strives for greater consistency and success in the season ahead.
